Mrs. Metaxa, the wife of the late founder of Creta Maris Resort, takes us on an intimate journey through fifty years of dreams, love, and cherished memories.

The soft morning sun warms the cobblestone paths at Creta Maris Resort as Mrs. Metaxa quietly walks through her beloved gardens. Fifty years ago, alongside her late husband Nikos Metaxas, a visionary builder and civil engineer, they began creating their dream—a resort that would bring the spirit of authentic Cretan hospitality to life. Nikos Metaxas saw potential where others didn't, believing deeply that the fish village of Hersonissos could flourish as a vibrant destination. Together, they built not just buildings, but a vision filled with warmth and authenticity.   

“Many times, I walk through the bungalows and the little paths, I know them so well. I sit on the stone ledges, crying and writing,” Mrs. Metaxa softly admits. Her words carry quiet echoes of conversations and dreams recorded diligently in her personal diary—dreams shared with her late husband, whose spirit still gently guides her steps.   

Nikos Metaxas would visit the construction site at dawn every morning before the workers arrived, ensuring everything would be true to their dream. Later, Mrs. Metaxa would follow, planting trees and flowers that mirrored the gardens of traditional Cretan homes. 

Every flower, every tree at Creta Maris was thoughtfully chosen and planted by the couple's loving hands. “The plants and flowers had to be the kind a Cretan woman would plant in front of her yard,” Mrs. Metaxa recalls warmly.  

Among these cherished plants, the pomegranate trees stand out—perhaps more than any other. They were not chosen just because they were beautiful, but because they meant something. Nikos loved them deeply, and Mrs. Theano planted them with intention and affection, knowing just how much joy they brought him.“ I planted so many pomegranate trees, because my husband loved them dearly. The pomegranate is the only tree that stays decorated from the moment it blooms until the fruit ripens,” she lovingly shares. Today, this heartfelt legacy thrives further through Creta Maris’s commitment to sustainability, with hundreds of edible plants carefully nurtured throughout the grounds, reflecting a contemporary dedication to preserving and respecting nature’s gifts.

To fulfill their vision of authenticity, the couple designed each bungalow uniquely, ensuring no two were alike—just as no two houses are identical in a traditional Cretan village. What started as their dream has flourished into an expansive resort, welcoming guests from all over the world to experience genuine Cretan hospitality, warmth, and tradition. Today, visitors find themselves embraced by the authentic spirit envisioned by Mrs. Theano Metaxa and her late husband, creating new memories that intertwine beautifully with the resort’s rich legacy.
